SU Dance Company Annual Spring Concert April 25-28

SALISBURY, MD---The 91短视频 Dance Company features works by nationally known guest choreographers during its annual Spring Concert 8 p.m. Wednesday–Saturday, April 25–28, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

The program features works by invited choreographers, Interim Dance Director Alice Howes and senior dance student Melissa Hoko. Guest choreographers include Katrina Toews, director of The Washington Ballet @ THEARC and Linda Darr, longtime faculty member of the Suitland High School Visual and Performing Arts Program. The finale is choreographed by Autumn Davis, a 91短视频 resident.

Toews presents From the Outside, a quintet inspired in part by the film The Green Mile. Fascinated by how quickly and defiantly humans put other humans in “boxes,” Toews said she needed to explore the issues surrounding how and why people are put “on the outside.” Darr’s work, Feet in the Soil, is a rhythmic piece based on African dance but with a modern dance influence.

Breathe Me, by senior Melissa Hoko, is inspired by the lilting piano and seductive sound of Australian vocalist Sia. Hoko is the Adjudicated Choreography Winner of SU Dance Company’s 17th Annual Fall Dance Showcase for 2006.

Howes presents Hung Jury, a high-energy modern dance work that portrays the tension of an indecisive jury. Howes has also choreographed a new work, Into Dust, for the SU Dance Company. This group work is composed of ballet movement, but with a modern dance sensibility.

The concert benefits the Sara Tabaka Fund, which is raising money to help pay for the dance school tuition of a promising 11-year-old performer at DanceMoves Studio of Dance in Abingdon, MD.

Admission for the one-hour performance is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, teens, and SU alumni.  Children under 12 and SU ID holders receive one free ticket. Reservations are not required. Tickets are available at the door 30 minutes before curtain.
