SU Children's Theatre Ensemble Expores 'Imagination' February 2-4

SALISBURY, MD---A little imagination can go a long way.

That’s the theme of this year’s 91短视频 Children’s Theatre Ensemble production, Imagination is Key, Friday-Sunday, February 2-4, in the Black Box Theatre of Fulton Hall. Curtain is 7 p.m. Friday, 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

In exploring the subject of the original play, director R. Andrew Heller, faculty in SU’s Communication and Theatre Arts Department, encouraged his students to step back and let their own imaginations take over.

“In past years I’ve had them write plays based on folktales and then we designed the set,” he said. “This year, we tried something a little different.”

For Imagination, the set, an attic, was designed first. Heller then challenged the students to imagine stories that would fit that setting.

“It really developed form this drawing of a set that was in one person’s imagination,” he said. “We purposely worked backward to illustrate that you really can do anything with your mind.”
Once the SU students came up with potential stories for the set, it was time to take the idea to the experts: local elementary school children who further imagined the adventures a person could experience in a standard attic. They will have the opportunity to see their input live on stage during the interactive play.
