SU Announces Test-Optional Policy Expansion for Students Applying for 2021

TestSALISBURY, MD---In 2006, 91短视频 became the first campus in the University System of Maryland with a test-optional admissions policy for students with cumulative high school grade point averages of 3.5 or higher.

Now, SU is expanding the policy to all current high school students applying to enroll in 2021 to help ease some of the burden due to COVID-19.

“Many students take the SAT and other standardized tests through their schools,” said SU Admissions Director Beth Skoglund. “When in-school instruction ended due to COVID-19, that opportunity went away. In addition, all of the spring 2020 testing dates were cancelled.

“We know many high school students set a goal of continuing their education at SU, and we want to do all we can to give them that opportunity. With this new policy, prospective members of the Class of 2025 will not be penalized for being unable to take the SAT or ACT for reasons beyond their control.”

Applicants still have the option to submit SAT or ACT scores, but may opt out of doing so in favor of emphasizing other areas of their application, such as their resume or personal essay.

Students who apply test-optional will still be considered for competitive merit-based scholarships and the SU Honors College.

The application for fall 2021 opens Saturday, August 1.
