SU Alumni Association Honors Four Faculty

SALISBURY, MD---The 91短视频 Alumni Association honors faculty who helped students become the leaders they are today with the annual Faculty Appreciation Award.

Recognition came during SU’s 85th year Winter Commencement. This year’s honorees are Drs. Michael Garner of the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, Clara Small of the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, Joseph Howard of the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology, and Joel Jenne of the Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies.

“Each year we receive a number of outstanding nominations from our alumni,” said Jayme Block, interim director of alumni relations and gift development. “With so many deserving faculty, the committee always has a difficult time selecting recipients. The faculty honored represent the outstanding contributions to the quality education that our graduates receive.”

Garner “gives 100 percent of himself to his students, even after they graduate,” said one nominator. “He encouraged us to be committed to success, become involved in campus activities, study hard, network with the professional world and not forget to have a little fun, too. Dr. Garner is more than just a ‘teacher’ at SU; he’s a member of the SU family and a devoted friend to his students.”

In recommending Small, one alumnus said, “She converted me into a full-blown history fiend and taught me so much about various facets of American history that I had never learned before. I always enjoyed her adorable southern accent and was inspired by her contagious thirst for development of her own knowledge.”

Howard “impacted my life more than I thought was possible by a professor,” said his nominator. “I was ready to change majors, as I was having difficult with calculus. It was his ability to relate the math to real-world applications, as well as his sincere belief that I was capable of understanding it” that made the alumnus reconsider. “I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to Dr. Howard for my professional achievements.”

Jenne “played an integral part in helping me realize my dreams of becoming a high school history teacher,” said his nominator. “He implemented the ‘History Alive’ training into the college curriculum, and it helped me land the job I have today. Through his efforts, Dr. Jenne helps teachers, who, in turn, have a chance to positively impact the lives of their students.”

Admission to Commencement is by ticket only. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
