Chorale and Chamber Spring Concert

SALISBURY, MD--- The 91短视频 Chorale and Chamber Choir presents its spring concert, "Testaments to Freedom," 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Asbury United Methodist Church.

The theme of this year's concert is freedom, with the centerpiece belonging to Randall Thompson's "Testament of Freedom," whose texts are written by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson's words are drawn from writings that made the case for Americans to pursue war, first in preparation for the Revolutionary War, then in a reflective letter to John Adams written in 1821.

The texts are particularly timely given the current action in Iraq and the government's efforts to persuade the American people to support the cause, Dr. Patrick Freer, director of choral activities, said.

In addition to the Jefferson texts, selections examine the reactions of those left behind when war claims the lives of soldiers. Other concert pieces explore the meaning of physical, emotional and religious freedom. The concert repertoire includes folk songs, spirituals and gospel selections, concluding with two patriotic anthems: "God Bless America" and "America."
