SU Celebrates Alumnae Successes

Holloway HallSALISBURY, MD---91短视频 is celebrating the following alumnae successes:

Rachel Pierson, B.A. environmental studies, B.S. geography ’18, of Edgewater, MD, recently had her senior honors thesis, “Digging into Ditches: A Historical-Geographic Analysis of Agricultural Drainage Ditches on Maryland’s Eastern Shore,” published in the Pennsylvania Geographical Society journal The Pennsylvania Geographer.

She co-authored the study with her thesis advisor, Dr. Gina Bloodworth, associate professor of geography and geosciences. Pierson is pursuing her M.S. in natural resources at the University of Vermont.

Courtney Harned, Ph.D. contemporary curriculum theory and instruction: literacy, ’18, of Melfa, VA, earned the American Educational Research Association Rural Education Special Interest Group Dissertation of the Year award.

Her dissertation, “Understanding Critically Informed, Place-Conscious Literacy Instruction in a Rural Context,” “skillfully communicate[d] the experience of how one classroom and experiment in alternative pedagogy connected to broader sociocultural themes,” said Catharine Biddle, Dissertation of the Year committee chair.

Harned teaches in the English and Modern Languages Department at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
